April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to win medals at multiple Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll be aiming to win her third gold medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic gold medal. And at the age of 39 this may be her last opportunity to achieve it. However, she's confident that winning the gold medal is at hand. Ross told NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best or play a great game and they are able to play well, the team will be able to win the gold medal. Also, I am going put my faith in a touch of luck. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball, as well as basketball as well as running and track. She clearly was the top player in indoor volleyball. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter in the court for volleyball per her bio at the college. Thanks to her hard work she was named the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. In addition, she was awarded the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. Ross is currently playing with Klineman since 2017, but Ross's beach game was well-established long before the year. In fact, she's won numerous tournaments, including one with the legendary player of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to 2013. She also worked with Klineman and herself. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the international circuit, winning a 2009 world title with each other. The pair eventually picked up an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team that could take home the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she announced her retirement. In 2016, the duo won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC in her high school days. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross hit the beach and became a professional. The Trojans had a great career for Ross in the university. Her freshman year in 2000 earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman's of the Award and also be named an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans get to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss in her sophomore, however, she was capable of achieving the All-American title. Through her final two seasons with the Trojans, she helped them to win two consecutive titles. In 2003-2004, Ross was named as the most successful collegiate female volleyball player in the United States through the Honda Sports Award. Ross was a major in international relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the privilege of watching Ross' daughter blossom into an international beach volleyball star. Ross's mother died of breast cancer while she was in her sophomore year at USC. She still holds her mother very dearly. In addition, Margie continues to be an motivation for her at the beaches and throughout life.
